Creativity incoming

In my last post I wrote about starting my latest project… here’s the link if you need it…

So how am I doing.

Well here’s my basket of “waste” which will be processed and used in future scrap projects.

A container filled with colourful fabric scraps. The fabrics have various patterns, including bright pink and orange stripes, pink polka dots on gray, purple with small designs, and some geometric shapes. The pieces are layered and crumpled together.

Now to how I’m progressing on my current project.

To begin with I grouped all my hexagons in colour “families” of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple which I then clipped together in groups of five for easy counting… according to my pattern I needed 60 hexagons and I had 96.

My fabric hexagons grouped in approximate colour families.
Top left:- purple
Top middle:- blue
Top right:- green
Bottom left:- yellow
Bottom middle:- orange
Bottom right:- red

Then I started adding the hexagons on the whiteboard. I decided try an almost rainbow colour wash from top left to bottom right. When it began to feel overwhelming to compare each hexagon to the next I decided to just use my gut instinct. It wasn’t too long before I started adding triangles.

I started by adding the directional triangles… luckily most of the fabrics could be placed in any orientation…

I also swapped out some triangles that weren’t working for me.

Collage of four images showing a progression of a craft project involving colourful hexagon and triangle pieces arranged on a magnetic whiteboard.

Top left: Several hexagonal pieces with vibrant patterns are attached to the upper left of the whiteboard, held by small magnets. Some magnets are scattered on the right side.

Top right: A blurred image of a similar setup, with round, colorful pieces attached to the upper left of a white surface. A red circle highlights one area. This shows how I perceive this project overall unless I’m looking at photos.

Bottom left: The white surface is now almost completely covered with hexagonal and triangular pieces in various bright patterns, forming a patchwork effect.

Bottom right: A similar view to the bottom left, but with a slightly different arrangement and more coverage, showing the progression toward a completed, colourful geometric display.

Which leads me to now.

I have my rows marked and ready to sew.

Eight stacks of hexagon-shaped fabric pieces, each with a different pattern and color, are attached to a whiteboard. Each stack is held in place by a colored magnet and labeled with a small piece of paper numbered from 1 to 8. The stacks are arranged in two rows of four. The patterns on the fabrics include waves, florals, birds, and geometric shapes in various pastel and bright colors. The whiteboard is otherwise empty except for the shadow of a person taking the photo.

Until next time
