Where did January go?

A colourful quilt with a patchwork design. The quilt features various patterns and colors, including blue, yellow, orange, and green. Some sections have floral designs, such as sunflowers, and there are also sections with text. The text includes phrases like "how lovely the silence of growing things," "may good things grow," "bloom where you are planted," and "flowers are happy things." There is a multicoloured, striped binding laid across the quilt so I could see if it looked right.

It started with doing some quilting over the first 10 days.

The image is divided into two sections, showing different parts of a room.

In the top section, there is a dark wooden cabinet with glass doors on the left side, displaying various items such as framed photos and small decorative objects. Next to the cabinet is a colorful set of plastic drawers in a rainbow of colors. In front of the drawers is a small table with a green surface, accompanied by folding chairs with different colored seats. On the wall above the table, there is a decorative wreath. A doorway is visible on the right side, leading to another room.

In the bottom section, there is a teal-colored wall with a framed photo of a child hanging on it. Below the photo is a gray sofa with a few cushions. To the left of the sofa is a small shelving unit with various items on top and inside. A quilt is hanging on the wall to the left. There is a window with light-colored curtains on the right side, allowing natural light into the room. A small green chair and a floor lamp are also visible near the window.

Then a couple of weeks of reorganising and decluttering my living room/ sewing room.

Finally summing up the courage to trim the quilt.

The image is a collage of three photos showing a sewing or crafting setup.

The left photo shows a sewing machine labeled "Model 7025" on a table with a green cutting mat. On the mat, there is a wooden spool and two pieces of colorful striped fabric cut into long, narrow strips. The fabric has diagonal stripes in various colors, including blue, pink, yellow, and green. It is what’s left after binding a quilt.

The top right photo shows a long strip of the same colorful fabric laid on my ironing board. The binding is being pressed in half and wound onto a spool ready to sew round the raw edges of a quilt. There is a small wooden block (called a clapper that helps set the crease) with a pair of green-handled scissors and a small glass jar for fabric and thread clippings next to it.

The bottom right photo shows a close-up of the same setup with the fabric rolled up into a coil. The green-handled scissors and the glass jar which contains clippings, are placed on the wooden block.

Then I pressed the binding in half winding it onto an empty ribbon spool ready to sew it onto the quilt edge to cover the raw edges.

I only had 20 inches of binding left after sewing the binding onto the back of the quilt. As of today I haven’t yet pressed the binding to the front as I decided to use a decorative stitch to sew the binding down and needed to buy some larger machine needles for my chosen thread and now they’ve arrived I need to do a practice piece.

The image shows three different quilt tops, each composed of a grid of colorful quilt blocks.

The top left quilt has nine blocks arranged in a 3x3 grid. Each block features a central square with various patterns, surrounded by multiple borders in different colors and patterns, including green, yellow, blue, and red.

The top right quilt is draped over a couch and also consists of nine blocks in a 3x3 grid. The blocks have a similar design to the first quilt, with central squares and colorful borders, featuring patterns in green, pink, blue, and yellow.

The bottom quilt is displayed on a wall and has nine blocks in a 3x3 grid. The blocks have central squares with various patterns and are bordered by colorful fabrics in shades of blue, green, yellow, and red. Each quilt block has a unique combination of colors and patterns, creating a vibrant and eclectic appearance.

Next up on the agenda are 3 lap quilts which were 27 blocks from May 2020 on Friday 31st January 2025 and are now (Sunday 2nd February 2025) 3 quilt tops each is approximately 48×48 inches.

So far I’m on target for my my project finishes in 2025.

Until next time.
