A little blind girl called Mia sees a pig in the distance…
It’s a miracle say some of the comments

The screenshot below is the pig that Mia “sees”

She asks “how can I see him?”
Her mum doesn’t know.
As a blind person I can explain… she doesn’t…
Mia is interpreting a pattern in her residual sight.
The majority of blind people have some residual sight that allows us to interpret our surroundings.

As human beings we are “programmed” from birth to interpret patterns. Right now you are if you’re visually reading this blogpost interpreting the patterns that are the letters, words, and pictures.
You’re probably wondering if I see the blurry image at arm’s length and beyond how can function.
I am living in a logic problem.
For instance the photo below fully described in the text that follows.

Two side-by-side images of a grassy area with bushes and trees in the background. The left image is blurry, with a red circle highlighting a specific area, and the word “Crocodile!” written across it. The right image is clear, showing a path with grass and a large log among the bushes, which resembles the shape of a crocodile.
My Charles Bonnet Syndrome (hallucinations many blind people experience) turned the blur I saw into an in focus crocodile about to attack from the long grass.
Of course I knew logically that I wasn’t about to be attacked by a crocodile but our brains are wired to spot potential predators and other dangers.
Similarly Mia knew there were more pigs in the pen and her brain interpreted the contrasting shape against the tree as another pig and was correct.
If you have working eyes go and look around… notice the patterns and how your brain interprets them.
Until next time.
