So what is the progress?

Firstly I spent time sewing triangles onto the hexagons to turn them into diamonds and pressed them.

Whiteboard with stacks of colourful fabric diamonds made from a hexagon and 2 equilateral triangles. Each diamond is made from multiple pieces of patterned fabric and has a small paper label with a number from 1 to 8. The numbers are handwritten and each label is held in place by a different colored magnet. The top row has three stacks of diamonds that have been pressed in and the five stacks in the bottom two rows have not yet been pressed. The fabrics feature a variety of patterns, including florals, birds, stripes, and abstract designs in bright colors like pink, green, orange, and purple. The whiteboard is standing on a frame, and the lighting creates some shadows on the left side.

Then it was time to sew and press the rows.

The pressing of the rows becomes quite meditative as I use the iron, water spray, and wooden clappers to get flat seams.

Sewing and ironing station. There is an ironing board covered with a colourful geometric and floral fabric, and on top of it are wooden tools, including a tailor’s clapper and two wooden pressing blocks. There is a strip of patchwork fabric laid out on the board. In the background, there is a white sewing machine with stickers on it, a steam iron, a spray bottle, and a green cutting mat. To the left, there are colourful plastic drawers for storage. The floor is carpeted in grey. This setup suggests a workspace for quilting or sewing projects.

Once I had sewn all the rows it was time to sew them into pairs.

Four long, narrow strips of patchwork fabric, each made from hexagonal pieces in various pastel and bright patterns, are hanging vertically on a whiteboard. Each strip is secured at the top with colorful magnets and labeled with small white cards numbered 1 to 8. The strips are arranged side by side, and each one features a unique combination of floral, geometric, and abstract prints.

I prepared the pairs by pinning them together to make groups of 4 rows

Quilt strips pinned to a whiteboard. There are two vertical strips of colorful, patterned fabric pieces, each made up of hexagon shapes sewn together. Each strip is held up with colorful push pins and has small paper tags with numbers (3, 4, 2, 1, 6, 5, 8, 7) attached to the top.

All that stood between these 4 pairs becoming a quilt top was 3 long seams.

The 2 seams to turn the pairs into the 2 halves, followed by the 3rd seam to join the halves together.

Colourful vs patchwork quilt top made of hexagon and triangle shaped fabric pieces. Each piece features a different vibrant pattern, including florals, animals, birds, geometric shapes, and abstract designs in a wide range of colours such as pink, green, blue, yellow, orange, and purple. The hexagons and triangles are arranged in rows, and the quilt top is held in place on a white surface with small clips at the edges. The overall effect is lively and visually engaging, with a mix of whimsical and traditional motifs.

Here we are ready to be pressed as a top.

I may add 2 more rows as I have more hexagons and triangles available and I’m not totally happy with its shape currently.

Until next time
