February round up

5 days after my last blogpost I had a bad fall badly bruising my ribs.

My sewing was on hold all month. Just over a week later my daughter and grandson arrived for their visit.

5.5 weeks later I’m still not totally recovered, heavy lifting still causes twinges so to be safe I won’t be finishing the binding and quilting the 3 tops until April.

In the meantime I got to sew some of my snail trail blocks and also squirrel away at some curved piecing as my pain diminished to niggles and I could finally lift my sewing machine back onto the table.

A collage of four images related to sewing and quilting.

Top left: A sewing machine on a table with a purple chair. There are two mesh folders with papers and fabric pieces inside, placed in front of the machine.

Top right: Various triangular fabric pieces in different patterns and colors, such as pink, green, and floral designs, are laid out on a cutting mat.

Bottom left: Curved fabric pieces in different colors and patterns, including orange, black, white, and pink, are organized in a yellow container on a cutting mat.

Bottom right: A quilt design pinned to a board, featuring a pattern of interlocking curved pieces in various colors and patterns, including yellow, orange, pink, blue, and black with stars.

I cut clamshells and apple cores using my AccuQuilt dies out of some random large scraps I found in my decluttering phase.

I love how the apple cores look like rectangular shapes with opposite convex and concave curves. They are easier to sew together into pairs than I expected.

Today’s task will be to press the remaining pairs I’ve sewn together before making a proper quilt layout on my design wall.

Then I’ll be able to experiment with the clamshells which I think look a bit like “paddle fans”.

Right now they look complicated to sew however AccuQuilt have done the hard work to simplify how they fit together so watching a video and sewing slowly I know that they will go together well.

Until next time
