Saw a question on a page:-
“What is the most interesting story behind a scar you have?”
I spoke about this scar which was red and furious throughout my childhood and early adulthood so was commented on frequently. I’m not sure when it got so unnoticeably pale.

My reply:-
“This one on my arm.
When I was little mum did her laundry in a “copper” with a mangle attached. While she was busy doing something else (probably putting clothes on the airer in the kitchen) my big sis and I in the outhouse dropped a “tea card” in the copper so decided to wring it out I was 3 or 4 and held the card towards the rollers on the mangle and sis was 5 or 6 and turned the handle. Unfortunately I didn’t let go and mum cane back to me hanging from the mangle almost up to my shoulder. Due to my age no bones broken but the friction burn left this wonderful scar as a talking point.”

The photo above is very similar to the copper. I can’t remember how mum washed the clothes in it but I know mum put the wet clothes etc through the mangle then hung them to dry
